![]() It has it's place in history but I don't know of anybody who actually enjoys that game these days. I still have the money that came with the game, but I'll probably never use it again. I remember thinking at the time how awesome it would be to have it, but knowing it was $550, I never would. I remember seeing the paper ads for the game in Reader's Digest and such back in the early 90s. We still have the game but no longer play it.Ĭool story. We stopped once my oldest sister started high school. We usually played it around Thanksgiving or Christmas time. It was a special event when we played it. We played it once a year as kids but we had to be careful with it. I think it would had been cool if we had that golden money instead of the money it came with, as that money looks much better and Golden. We call it “Golden Monopoly.” My father bought it for us as a family gift in 1991 for that full price of $550. Overall, I have a lot of pride for this set. I did add a few tokens that did not come with the game though. The game pieces (tokens, hotels, and houses) are supposedly plated in 24 karat gold (tokens and hotels) and silver (houses). The $2 and $1,000 denominations can easily be included into the game. I just wanted all 12 denominations for the collection. $100 - Benjamin Franklin (old & new designs) $20 - President Andrew Jackson (old & new design) $10 - Alexander Hamilton (old & new design) $5 - President Abraham Lincoln (old & new design) $2 - President Thomas Jefferson (old & new design) $1 - President George Washington (old & new design) What you are seeing is (fake, obviously) gold banknotes (purchased on eBay from sellers in China) that resemble U.S. The money you are seeing did not come with the game. When it was first released in 1991, the list price was $550. ![]() Good luck, cheaters.I bought this used on eBay six or seven years ago for $200+. Monopoly: Cheaters Edition is expected to hit store shelves and online retailers in Fall 2018. The game includes a pair of plastic handcuffs. Perhaps the most amusing part, players caught cheating move their token to jail and are physically handcuffed to the game board until they pay to get out, or another player goes to jail. Players who successfully pull off a cheat are rewarded $200, a hotel, or another cash amount. There are also five "cheat cards" in the center of the board at any given time. The big change comes in the lack of a game banker. Players roll and move their token accordingly and follow instructions depending on where they land. The goal of driving others into bankruptcy by purchasing land and charging rent remains. Like traditional Monopoly, some rules still apply. It all goes - as long as players get away with it.Īccording to Monopoly-maker Hasbro, a recent study showed "nearly half of game players attempt to cheat during Monopoly games, so in 2018, Hasbro decided it was time to give fans what they’ve been craving all along." Stealing from the bank, skipping spaces, avoiding rent. "Monopoly: Cheaters Edition" challenges players to get away with as much as they can. Family game nights have ended the same way at least once: Someone makes an angering play and the game board gets flipped into the air, sending pieces and cards flying in all directions.įor those players always seeking to get one over on others, Monopoly is embracing your strategy.
